A look at what’s inside:
-
First things first, class #1 is the foundation of all the work we’ll do together. It's the most essential resource: Establishing your relationship to the ground.
Thankfully, gravity is always there, keeping us connected to the earth whether we’re aware of it or not.
But having a felt sense of that connection through our mind-body is a whole different experience.
When you don’t have an embodied connection to the ground, you miss out on a wonderful supply of support for your whole mind-body system. With a felt sense of the ground as a support system in your body, you gain more access to embodied experiences like:
Needing less muscular effort or tension to balance or "hold yourself up"
Accessing an easier deeper breath through your body
Feeling more connection to the spaces around you
The sense of being tapped in to greater physical and emotional resilience
-
This class dives into how to work with your body as an always-balancing-whole-body-system.
When you have the right tools, you have a lot of agency over how to influence the musculoskeletal aspect of balance - aka your "posture", how you hold yourself up, what parts of your body help do this, how to reset yourself so tension doesn't accumulate, etc. Here’s what we’ll cover:
Find out what your pre-existing concepts about balance and posture are and if they’re helpful.
Tune in to how your body is automatically supporting your movements and postures already. We have to know where we’re starting from before we can add in new choices, right?
Then we’ll bust the myth that we need to “be in alignment” or “find perfect posture” or “stack ourselves up just so” in order to be in balance.
Practice moving with balance as a whole-body-relationship concept, a dynamic process.
Learn about how counterbalance is the new best friend you didn’t know you needed :)
-
This class brings the unconscious, 24/7 action of breathing into our conscious awareness.
Here’s what we cover in class:
The anatomy of how breathing works
How to create independence from what's necessary to breathe and other things that get involved (like jaw tension, shoulders, )
Practice keeping your breath continuous while you're in movement (sounds easy, I know)
Learn a few simple activities you can do on your own that help you return to a deeper, expansive, supportive breath.
-
The balance of your back is a vital component that impacts how your body's balance, coordination, breathing, and overall flow are going.
Understanding how your back and torso are designed to organize and support you can help make ordinary movements easier and often end up taking less effort.
In this class we explore:How your back is a key component to finding freedom in your dynamic whole-body balance
Basic anatomy of the head, spine, and pelvis
Exploration of how the coordination of your back supports a variety of movements you do every day
Simple movements that help with recuperation and re-finding a supportive, relationship to your back, posture, and movement
-
This culminating class ties together all the work from the previous classes through a lens of mindfulness.
Mindfulness is a key component of shifting the relationship to oneself, developing space for change, and creating new options for how you move through the world in your body.
This skill, when put into action, allows us to stay connected to a part of us that observes our experience and can attend to what might be needed or supportive in the moment.
In this class we focus on pausing, giving ourselves small, micro moments to reconnect.
As we reconnect we can bring in helpful elements that move us back towards wholeness, balance, connection, whatever we need!
This course is a good fit for you if…
You’d like to be more connected to your body
You struggle with slowing down or find it hard to make time to connect to yourself
You’re not sure how you feel or what’s happening in your body throughout the day
You spend most of your time in “doing" mode and need support to shift to “being” mode
You’re interested in learning how to move with more ease and connection in your body + learning about some cool anatomy details sounds fun too!
You already enjoy learning about the body and somatics, maybe you have your own practices you touch base with but you want to deepen your experiential understanding of it
You’re a helping professional or body practitioner that needs your own space to center back on yourself
